From the get-go, this was a podcast I intentionally wanted to dive into.

Why?

Because when lawyers take the mic—not in court, but in conversation—they bring a uniquely thoughtful and analytical lens to whatever topic they touch.

Nicholas Opiyo, a renowned Ugandan human rights lawyer and activist, offers insight not just from his legal expertise but from lived experience. His story reminded me of another podcast I listened to earlier in this challenge: a Ugandan lawyer now based in California, still passionately engaged in activism. There's something magnetic about hearing how people balance their professional training with their ongoing passions, even across continents.

To sweeten the deal, Brenda brings in Muthoni Waigwa—someone I’m already familiar with from her podcast Moments with Nderru. So yes, I’ll admit it: I was a little biased going into this one. But in the best way. Knowing their voices and platforms beforehand made it all the more enjoyable.

What stood out in this episode? Their clarity. Their articulation. The ease with which they navigated topics like media spaces, podcasting, and the influence of advertising in shaping narratives. It was a masterclass, really—two seasoned podcasters sitting down and fully understanding the assignment.

Brenda shines as a host: poised, thoughtful, and clearly passionate about amplifying voices with purpose. It’s a shame the Viewpoints with Brenda podcast hasn’t had new episodes since 2022. I left the episode inspired, but also hoping—hoping there’s something brewing in Brenda’s creative kitchen. If so, I’m ready for seconds.
