Today’s feature on The Sambaza Podcast March Challenge brings us to “The Sound of Accra”, a podcast that truly lives up to its name. Hosted by Adrian Daniels, this show bridges cultures and continents, capturing the entrepreneurial and creative spirit of Accra while broadcasting from the United Kingdom. Based on his accent and online presence, I discovered that Adrian is of Ghanaian descent and currently resides in the UK.
What sets this podcast apart is its origin—it started as a radio broadcast and has since transitioned into a podcast format. While most of the episodes are well-edited, I did encounter one with slightly disjointed audio. It might have been an intentional choice to give it a raw and authentic feel, but it was something I noted as a listener.
After listening to an episode, I dove deeper to learn more about Adrian. On his Instagram page, it’s clear he’s passionate about building up African communities through unity and collaboration. His vision is compelling, and his social media adds valuable context to the podcast content. I appreciated how he uses Instagram as a platform to engage with his audience beyond the mic.
Interestingly, Adrian is also a fan of “Social Proof”—a podcast by Danny Shands and Donni Wiggins based out of Atlanta. (Note to self: that’s one to check out!) It’s always interesting to see what inspires other podcasters.
Despite some limitations on certain platforms when it comes to finding background information, I was able to gather a fair amount of insight. The Sound of Accra boasts high-quality production, rich conversations, and a focus on diasporan stories, especially those connected to Ghana. Adrian’s journey is intriguing, and I’m looking forward to listening to more episodes.
