A Life-Changing Experience for Podcasters

I recently attended Podfest 2025 in Orlando, and I have to say, it exceeded every expectation I had. I was used to smaller conferences, so the idea of joining over 1,000 podcasters for four days felt a bit overwhelming at first. I had been chatting with some people virtually through an app (WHOVA), but who would actually show up in person? Well, to my surprise, it felt more like a family reunion than a conference.

From the very beginning, the energy was contagious. The most common question was, "Are you a podcaster?" followed by "What's your podcast about?" Those simple questions sparked some incredibly engaging and lengthy conversations. It’s true – podcasters love to chat!

I was there to connect with a wide range of individuals interested in podcasting, with a special focus on meeting fellow podcasters from diverse backgrounds. And I’m so glad I did. I met an inspiring group of people from all over, including two podcasts representing the diaspora. One of the most memorable encounters was with Lola S Harris, the host of the Kadara Woman Podcast. Her warmth made it feel as though we had been friends for years, yet we were meeting for the first time in person.

This experience was a perfect example of the strong sense of community among African podcasters, which completely surpassed my expectations. Podfest also offered ample opportunities for networking, particularly at events where podcasters could mingle and exchange ideas, building connections across cultures and backgrounds.

One of the most unexpected but delightful encounters was with Simone Kelly, a talented author, podcaster, and spiritual coach from Own Your Power. It didn’t take long for her to become a valued new friend. Conversations like these reminded me of the real power of bringing together diverse groups at events like this.

Beyond the socializing, Podfest also had an impressive range of activities, including highly informative sessions. Personally, I decided to volunteer, helping with a couple of session rooms. This was a rewarding way to give back to the community while still being part of the action. It’s also a great option for anyone attending future events to immerse themselves.

The Expo hall was buzzing with energy, showcasing over 30 exhibitors representing podcasting companies and affiliated organizations. One booth, in particular, stood out by offering recording and streaming services, with solo and guest recording stations set up for podcasters to use on-site. Many podcasters even set up mini studios in the hotel’s open spaces, making the most of the opportunity to record sessions in real time.

What really stood out to me about Podfest 2025 was its ability to bring podcasters together in such a meaningful way. The friendships and connections made here will last far beyond the event itself. For anyone considering attending future conferences, I wholeheartedly recommend Podfest – it’s worth every minute and every dollar invested. It’s a life-changing experience for podcasters who are eager to learn, grow, and connect.
